How Does Video Help Your Brand

I would be lying if I said that video and/or moving image content on the web is some kind of a new trend or that I am the one who came up with this.

Video is around since it killed the radio star in 1977. The second birthday might be February 14, 2005, when Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim founded YouTube.com. Their slogan might be “Broadcast Yourself”, but we all know that it’s actually a place where most of us get lost for couple of hours, when all you needed was a DIY tutorial for cleaning your sneakers, but you somehow ended up watching this hilarious video of a “talking” dog who’s being teased.

My apologies for making you watch this video, but you can’t deny that it was funny.

Can you even imagine how many times I got distracted while writing this post? I would open YouTube to search for one specific thing or video and in the best case scenario leave it after just 30 minutes. And yes, there were times when I realized that I hadn’t actually found what I was looking for. Can you even imagine how many hours people have lost watching videos?

On this note, let’s dig into the amazing world of benefits that come along with having embed videos on your website.

Imagine having a video among your post or article and the time spent on your website while actually sort of just watching a video. Do you know how much better your site would rank in Google?* Andrew Brown wrote on “Bluehost” blog that:

“One of the factors of Google’s algorithm for search rankings is “dwell time,” or how long visitors stay on your website. This may also be referred to as “long clicks vs. short clicks.” The idea is that if people are spending a lot of time on your website, it must have quality content.”

*By the way, if you did not know (though I doubt about that), Google owns Youtube. So YAY for SEO!

Videos are also a great way to put some personality into your brand. Like an actual human personality with voice, face or even the whole body. And mostly everyone likes to communicate with someone real. To have a human – human interaction. Who doesn’t like a great group photo? Imagine those people talking with your customers or website visitors. Did you know that one minute video can say up to 1.8 million words? No one can write that fast! Here are some more facts to convince you.

Don’t forget about mobile users

Have you ever tried reading a long article or a post on your smartphone? I bet that would be inconvenient even if the website is responsive and you’re reading it on iPhone 7 Plus. Receiving all of the information via video can make it a more enjoyable journey for the visitor. Especially with today’s short attention spans. And don’t forget about those 1.8million words per minute as well as the fact that around 40 percent of people prefer to receive their information visually rather than in plain text!

Still not convinced? Here are some extra pinpoints on why you should use video:

  • To enhance your website and demonstrate your product or activity in a more interactive way;
  • To deliver a message and share your expertise in your field of knowledge;
  • To drive traffic to your website;
  • To earn money and promote stuff that can earn even more money;
  • To give your business a personal face, stand out among others and be remembered;
  • To have regular visits to your website.

Step 1: Find the video you want to insert. It can be from any page and you don’t have to be the page owner to get the iframe.
Step 2: Facebook hasn’t made it as easy as other to share the content somewhere else outside Facebook (they hid the button really well, but I did find those three little dots anyway). So open a video and look for three dots on top right corner.
